How Sterile is Your Favorite Piercing or Tattoo Parlor?

MRSA can be found everywhere!  Take a look at how a Kansas City teenager contracted MRSA by trying to pierce his lip with a needle.  He ended up with a staph infection which almost ended his life.

Zeke Wheeler of Blue Springs is recovering at Children’s Mercy Hospital after several surgeries on his knees and hips to remove the drug-resistant infection called Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus infection (MRSA).

Now the 15-year-old high school freshman faces heart surgery, more hospitalization and a long course of antibiotics.

If MRSA gets into the blood stream you can get an infection on the heart, pneumonia, into the bone that may require surgical intervention.

MRSA is a bacteria we’re seeing more and more frequently in communities and hospitals.

There is a lesson to be learned here.  If you are getting piercings, tattoos, or anything that will expose a wound it should be done by someone who knows what they are doing and in a completely sterile environment.
