What is MRSA and Why is it SOOO Scary?

What is MRSA?

MRSA stands for Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus which is a medical term used to describe a type of bacteria that is difficult to treat in humans – sometimes called a “Super Bug”.

How is it transmitted?

MRSA is especially troublesome in hospital associated infections. In hospitals, patients with open wounds, invasive devices, and weakened immune systems are at greater risk for infection than the general public. Hospital staff who do not follow proper sanitary procedures may transfer bacteria from patient to patient.

MRSA can survive on surfaces and fabrics, including privacy curtains or garments worn by care providers.

Additionally, MRSA can be found in the nose of healthy humans using them as a carrier.

Open wounds such as scrapes and cuts is an invitation for MRSA to move in.

How do you get rid of MRSA?

Complete surface sanitation is necessary in areas where patients are recovering from invasive procedures and enhanced sanitizing protocol.  The protocol should include an EPA registered & FDA approved product including alcohol.  A product like Viraguard is the perfect defense against MRSA.

Where else is MRSA Found?

MRSA can be found just about on any surface, anywhere:

  • Doctor’s offices
  • Dentist’s offices
  • Schools
  • Daycares
  • Tattoo Parlors
  • Health Clubs

Administrators of these types of facilities should be extra viligent in thier sanitizng protocol.
